The museum sought a new home in the Finlayson area, a former red-brick industrial complex that serves as the soul of Tampere. The challenge was to design a contemporary building to house one of Finland’s most significant modern art collections, integrating it into a dense, historic urban fabric with extreme climatic conditions.
Arquitectos Ayala’s proposal stood out for its respect for the surrounding volumetry. Rather than disrupting the industrial landscape, the project inserted itself elegantly into the grid, using a materiality that entered into a dialogue with the brick tradition while speaking a clearly modern language. It was architecture that understood the city’s scale and the importance of the surrounding public spaces.
At Drama, our visual work focused on light. In Finland, light is more than just an aesthetic element; it’s a condition of life. We crafted the imagery to reflect that specific Nordic atmosphere: a cold, filtered light interacting with the warmth of the materials and the snow.
