Jesús Aparicio

Jesús Aparicio (Madrid, 1960) is a Spanish architect. His work and thinking are focus in merging the thinking-teaching-building understanding these three abilities as a whole. He graduated with honors in both Design and Urbanism specializations at the School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM) in 1984.
He was awarded with the Rome Prize in 1987 and subsequently with a Fulbright/Ministry of Education grant. He researched several years at Columbia University, where he got a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Building Design. Jesús Aparicio is a PhD architect and since 2009 full professor of Architectural Design at the School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM). During the academic years 2001/02 and 2011/12 he has been Visiting Scholar at the Graduated School of Architecture of Columbia University (GSAPP).
His double facet of theoretical investigations and built projects has been published widely national and internationally. He is a member of the Group of Investigation “The Habitat Culture” from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Aparicio is the editor of the Essays on Architecture and Ceramics collection and Director of the Ceramic Chair at School of Architecture of Madrid. Also, he was the director of the Congress “Crisis in Architecture?” that took place in Brussels in 2010 and the annual International Congress “Architecture and Ceramics” since 2010. Among his published books are: “El Muro” [The Wall], part of his PhD Thesis, “El Hogar del Jubilado” [Elderly Facility Center], “Terragni, la densidad del espacio” [Terragni, the Density of the Space], “El Danteum” [The Danteum], the monography “Jesús Aparicio AA40” and “Construir con la razón y los sentidos” [Building with the Reason and the Senses] or “Enseñando a mirar” [Teaching to Gaze] both a series of short essays about teaching and learning Architecture.
